Kaki King, (13th January, Northcote Social Club)

Definitely different from the Mountain Goats, but an amazing performer in a very different way. Kaki King reminded me at times of Ani DiFranco, minus the angry lyrics, with her percussive guitar playing. She's an amazing guitarist and most of the songs she played showcased this feature of her music, along with her amazing sense of rhythm. It was low key but compelling listening. I recognised a few songs- Yellowcake, Night After Sidewalk, but didn't know enough of the other tracks by name. Still, I bought her CD afterwards. It seems like the perfect background writing music.

The only downside of the gig was the rude people talking in the background. Normally people are a little less considerate during the support act, but by the time the main act starts they tend to shut up. Not this time. For god's sake, if you want a social chat go to the bar next door. I didn't pay twenty dollars to hear people talking. The loud rude girls behind me were most annoying, but after they were shushed at by a few people they got the message.

I was at this gig and it was totally amazing! I was floored by her talent live! I hated the people who were talking as well. Its just disrespect to an amazing musician, not to mention rude to the people trying to listen. Tip: Shut the hell up at intimate concerts!
I felt like an ass when I let out an enthusiastic "YeaH" during one of her excellent tunes. She actually looked up at me and gave me a dirty look lol.
Kaki rules the earth!
