I read my sister's comment (see below, the entry about music I don't like as much anymore) and I don't think she knows very much about me or the kind of person I am. If she thinks I'm the kind of person who tells other people from some sort of all-knowing pedestal what sorts of music they should like, well I hope she's wrong. As I said back when I set up this blog in December, I'm not out to attack your tastes. And hey, if you think the song Ironic by Alanis Morissette is the best song ever and that the really intelligently ironic thing about the song is that the lyrics aren't ironic at all, good luck to you (sometimes I even wonder myself if this is the real point of the song). I'll concede to having criticised Matchbox 20 but there's lots of good reasons to do that. I promise not to do so again, if it offends people. I don't usually write here about music I don't like and I don't criticise people for their taste, unless they think punk rockers had flowers in their hair. My main purpose here is to write about music I like and why I like it. As the title says, it's supposed to be self indulgent.
Moving on, my sister clearly buys into the whole alternative/mainstream dichotomy theory and thinks I have positioned myself on one side of this. My reasons for liking the kind of music I do are because... well, I just do. I can't help it. If a particular song affects me in a certain way, good on that artist or band. It's not something that comes down to it being 'alternative' or widely unknown or whatever.
So I thought I'd point out that some of the music my sister likes is played on Triple J (shock horror! It's an 'alternative' station, after all... how dare they?) If I cared what people thought of me and my tastes I would have stopped listening to the Whitlams, Ben Folds Five, Coldplay, Eskimo Joe and The Shins too because some people I know hate all of those artists. In fact, lots of people I know hate Triple J unconditionally.
Anyway, here is a list of artists that my sister likes who are or have been played on Triple J:
1. Crowded House
2. Split Enz
3. REM
4. Dandy Warhols
5. Eskimo Joe
6. Snow Patrol
7. The Shins (well I think she likes them. Not sure though).
8. Augie March
9. Ben Folds
10. Ben Folds Five
11. 78 Saab
12. Alex Lloyd
13. Powderfinger
14. Badly Drawn Boy
15. Beck (not sure about this one, but I think she likes him)
16. Ben Lee
17. Bernard Fanning
18. The Cat Empire
19. Coldplay
20. The Dissociatives
21. Silverchair
22. Evermore
23. Fatboy Slim
24. Franz Ferdinand
25. George Harrison
26. Gersey
27. Youth Group
28. Gorillaz
29. Josh Pyke
30. Kate Miller-Heidke
31. The Killers
32. Lily Allen
33. Lior
34. Little Birdy
35. Missy Higgins
36. Moby
37. Nirvana
38. Oasis
39. Sarah Blasko
40. Scissor Sisters
41. Something for Kate
42. The Waifs
43. You Am I
44. Damien Rice
45. Alanis Morissette
46. The Beatles
47. George Harrison
And these are just the artists I have in my iTunes library. As for no one reading this blog, I don't care. I'm writing this for my own self indulgent purposes. I don't care if anyone reads it or not. But for the record, more people have commented on it than on Alex Makin's (stupid Liberal councillor's blog). One final comment... no one I know has ever told me they hate REM or told me I shouldn't like them. On the whole, most people are pretty accepting of the fact that everyone has different tastes in music.
By the way I'd have to warn you that I'm not really in a good mood today. It's hot and humid and I'm not in the mood to have people write accusatory and aggressive things about me. If you're in that sort of frame of mind, wait a couple more weeks.

I know it's hot and humid and all so please excuse the implicit accusatory tone here, but I have to ask: WHY are you reading (or checking) some stupid Liberal councillor's blog???
That's OK... he left a comment on my sister Liz's blog a few weeks ago, because she wrote something about the public transport issues in Melbourne. He 'corrected' some comment she made, totally missing the entire point of her blog and she wrote a comment back attacking him. When we went to look at his blog we found out a) no one leaves comments there and b) he was born in the Chinese zodiac year of the monkey (no offence meant if you were too).
In regards to the current heated argument raging between two siblings who may or may not belong to the same family as a talented young blogger who attracts Liberal Councillors, I think it is my duty as younger, more annoying sibling to inform them that, regardless of the debate they are involved in, they are both missing the point completely and are stupid idiots.
As for the actual debate, I don't really see what the two opposing sides are and how it is relevant in today's society. However, I am but a lowly first year and cannot be expected to comprehend the complex discussions of two older and obviously more mature and learned sisters.
Incidentally, "we" didn't look at the Liberal's blog and find things out, I believe it was me. And this is a very obvious ploy to elicit another heated exchange, so you can recognise it next time.
Ummm...ok. You Chomiaks are very very silly. I happen to like REM. I have to admit i hav'nt listened to htem in AGES. And that is because i simply hav'nt been in the mood to listen to said band. And i'll further admit that i have a very broad range of tastes in music. I will listen to almost anything, except country music. That just drives me nuts. And yes i do own Justin Timberlake's latest album and i know most of it is crap and i'll agress with anyone who thinks that. But i also like it because it is so stupid. I also happen to own Panic! At The Disco, which is apparently EMO. I dont agree with that. But i will agree that they are punk rock, more punk. Maybe im wrong. I dont care. But just because i own that CD doesnt mean that i am EMO. Far from it. And if anyone calls me an EMO will get their head knocked off. To end this stupid comment; Sara and Claire this is possibly one of the stupidest areguments ever and Liz...your just plain silly :)
Yeah I know it's a stupid argument but I'm not the one who started it...
Actually 'we' did look at the Liberal's blog (as evidenced by the multiple comments I left on yours at the time). It's just that you did first.
