I thought I would write a bit about a band I've been listening to for the past couple of days. I don't yet know their music well enough to rant and rave about it being great, but give me a bit more time and we will see. Anyway, the band is called Rilo Kiley. I actually knew one of their songs from a few years back called Portions for Foxes, which I had heard played on Triple J. But a friend burnt me a CD with a whole pile of stuff on it and this was among the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and the Grates stuff.
From what I've heard so far (most of the album once, a couple of songs three or four times) I really like them. In ways the lead singer reminds me of a more upbeat Dar Williams. They have a definite country sensibility about them but mostly their style could be described as 'rock/pop with a twist'. Best tracks so far... the aforementioned, plus A Man/Me/Then Jim which has found its way onto my 'walking to school' play list on my iPod. You can check them out at www.rilokiley.com.
