Four CDs in One Day

I think I broke my record for CD purchases today. And I blame Borders entirely. To be fair, one of the CDs was free (thanks to the 3 for 2 table) and two of them only cost $10 each. But the other was close to full price. There was also at least one other CD I nearly bought (the one by Tracey Thorne which is supposed to be pretty good). So I walked out with four CDs.

Anyway, I intended to purchase only the new My Friend the Chocolate Cake album. MFTCC are an Australian band, Melbourne based, fronted by David Bridie with song titles like Jimmy Stynes and John Cain Avenue. They are an orchestral/folkie sort of group with some instrumental tracks (one of which has been used in a bank commercial and I actually really like it- the song, not the commercial) and others with lyrics. Energetic at times, slow and contemplative and melancholy at others.

So I bought that. Then I also saw an Everything But the Girl compilation which contained nothing I already had, so I needed that. And on the same table I was tempted by some Atlantic R & B (the real R & B, none of this TLC/Usher crap) featuring Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Roberta Flack... two CDs full of stuff I decided would be good background writing music. Also good dinner party music. Good music generally, in fact.

And do I feel guilty? Not at all.
