Pub Rock (A List)

I was at Bridie O'Reilly's on Saturday night in the city and was reminded that I rather enjoy that kind of place in a certain mood, mostly because of the covers band that inevitably ends up playing a set of familiar songs. On Saturday they played a few of them- Shimmer by Fuel, Semi Charmed Life by Third Eye Blind and even Take Me Out by Franz Ferdinand. I thought today I would compile a list of my top five pub rock songs. I don't think you can really dance to many of these songs- the main fun part is singing along while holding a drink in one hand. If you have your own favourite please leave a comment.

1. I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles), The Proclaimers
This song reminds me of being in the back of a mini bus in Scotland driving through the highlands on a chilly December morning. I requested this at last year's valedictory dinner on behalf of all the teachers.

2. Run to Paradise, The Choirboys
This is a great one to sing along to although for awhile I was convinced it was called Road to Paradise instead. Also I once went on a mini pub crawl where this was played first at Bridie's and then about an hour later at the European Bier Cafe next door.

3. You're the Voice, John Farnham
Another one of those great chorus sing alongs. I love how the Australian Electoral Commission are using this to try and get people to enrol to vote now.

4. Real World, Matchbox 20
I think I've only heard this played in a pub once but it is another good one to sing along to.

5. Catch My Disease, Ben Lee
A recent one. Highly infectious generally.
