Young Modern

My sister bought the new Silverchair album yesterday. I knew she would and I've been looking forward to hearing it. I've heard Straight Lines quite often on the radio and Triple J has been playing the other tracks as well, so I've had a chance to hear some of it. I had to wait until my sister had listened to all of it before I was allowed to add it to my iTunes playlist, however. Anyway, it's a huge contrast to their Frogstomp Nirvana-esque grunge days of Israel's Son but much more appealing rock/pop. Some of the songs sound like they've come from a lost Split Enz album- If You Keep Losing Sleep and the Those Thieving Birds (also kind of like Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody). Mind you, all the reviews in the papers could tell you the same thing. All in all, it's a consistent album with plenty to like and I can see it becoming great writing background music.
