There are some names with which lots of songs are associated. I think I'll write another entry later on about name songs since I can now think of quite a few. Maybe 'top ten name songs' will be tomorrow's entry, or perhaps Thursday's but for now I'll stick to my own name. There are a fair few others too I'm sure, like the Bob Dylan song but I don't know that one well enough to comment here.
1. Zak and Sara, Ben Folds (from Rockin' The Suburbs)
The great thing about this song... not only does it mention my name but it mentions the specific spelling of my name. 'Sara spelled without an 'h' was getting bored'. I've seen this played live at least once and possibly twice, if I am correctly recalling the contents of the set list from the MSO show last year. Also has great lines like 'Sara told the friendly salesman that you'll all die in your cars and why's it gotta be dark when you're all working in a submarine... asshole!'
2. Lucky, Radiohead (from OK Computer)
'Kill me Sarah, kill me again with love'. A rather depressing little number, especially coupled with the video clip which I think from memory features refugees in war torn countries... correct me if I'm wrong. But it's a good showcase for Thom Yorke's angsty vocal capabilities and the songwriting skills of Radiohead generally.
3. Sarah, Eskimo Joe (from Black Fingernails Red Wine)
This song has contradictory lyrics. 'Sarah, won't you tell me your name?' But it's another strong single from what is one of Eskimo Joe's more consistent albums. I think their best is yet to come however. A bit overplayed these days thanks to commercial radio and their discovery of this band, eight years after everyone who listens to Triple J, but still good.
