The Port Boys Drive Toranas, and Commodore VLs
There's a finals game on TV at the moment and Geelong is winning (narrowly). At this time of year it seems appropriate to be listening to Greg Champion's Footy Songs CD. Many of his songs have a habit of lingering in your head for a long time after you hear them. I particularly like the songs The Port Boys Drive Toranas which discusses club sponsorship deals and South Australia which is all about Adelaide stereotypes, plus Neil 'Jenny' Craig. The take offs of club songs are also rather amusing especially the Carlton one about the wooden spoon ('and next year, in spite of all the talk, we won't win the spoon we'll win the fork'). There's also one about Matty Lloyd throwing grass in the air, and another called Shinboners (about predictable subject matter), one about the fight in the Adelaide hotel between Crows and Power supporters and one about St Kilda playing away from 'Disconnect Dome'. But being a Melbourne supporter the song about elbow patches and red wine in the MCC Members stand is particularly close to my heart.
