Best of Stuff From Not This Year

My slackness these last couple of days has nothing to do with the school holidays... it's not my fault but rather the lack of broadband internet connection at my parents' house. I'm using dial up on my laptop at the moment to do this post. Very irritating... how else can I play Facebook Scrabble?

Anyway, I thought I'd write about some of the albums I discovered this year and think are great, but which won't qualify for a 'best of 2007' list because they are from earlier years.

Regina Spektor, Soviet Kitsch
An album that is full of amazing tracks like Carbon Monoxide, Ode to Divorce, Chemo Limo, Your Honor and Us. I was lucky enough to see many songs performed at her gig in July which is definitely on my highlights list for this year.

Gomez, How We Operate
An album I saw in JB last year, wondered about but only bought this year after hearing the title track for the first time. It's quite a strong album, accessible and more consistent than previous efforts.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Show Your Bones
I think a couple of songs from this album made it into the Hottest 100, but my favourite is Turn Into which I can't hear enough times. Gold Lion and Phenomena are also great and very addictive.
