This entry suits the kind of day I’ve had at work— songs containing swearing. I’m no prude when it comes to swearing, although I think over-use of certain words make them lose their effectiveness. Some of my favourite albums have black and white language warning stickers on them. And some of them also appeared on my list of angry songs. I don’t particularly care today about that, however.
Bloody Mother Fucking Arsehole, Martha Wainwright
An excellent, very angry song that’s great to sing along to. Her father wrote a song called Martha so she wrote one in retaliation called Bloody Mother Fucking Arsehole. Showcases her vocal abilities, complemented by a steady, solo guitar rhythm.
The whole of Whatever and Ever Amen is a good angry album, but this song in particular creates that kind of mood. Based apparently on a conversation between Ben and Darren Jesse, about Darren’s ex girlfriend. ‘And don’t forget to give me back my black t-shirt’.
Sickly sweet on one level, until you hear the first f word. Another one of those albums peppered with ‘foul language’, although the worst word is DJ scratched out.
From Jagged Little Pill, the first album I owned. This rather angry little diatribe was written about an actor who used to be in the TV show Full House. Another album of angry songs.
There’s a fair few Ani tracks that could qualify for this list. She releases her stuff independently and so doesn’t have to pacify record companies… and she doesn’t tend to hold back!
