From one of my favorite bands, Wilco, there are many memorable lyrics. They range from the straightforward to the surreal and obscure, but all albums have lines that resonate. Here are some of my favorites.
'You're gonna make me spill my beer if you don't learn how to steer,' Passenger Side, from AM.
'What you once were isn't what you want to be anymore,' Shot in the Arm, from Summerteeth.
'When the devil came he was not red. He was chrome and he said, 'come with me, you must go,' so I went,' Hell is Chrome, from A Ghost Is Born.
'It's all beginning to feel like it's ending,' Can't Stand It, from Summerteeth.
'I've turned to rust as we've discussed, but I must have let you down so many times in the dirt and the dust,' You Are My Face, from Sky Blue Sky.
'You were right about the stars, each one is a setting sun,' Jesus Etc, from Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.
'I guess all this history, it's just a mystery to me,' Hotel Arizona, from Being There.
'Ceiling fan is on, chopping up my dreams. What is left of them I take to sleep again,' Shake It Off, from Sky Blue Sky.
'His vocal chords are made of gold, he just looks a little too old,' The Late Greats, from A Ghost Is Born.
'I pick up the phone again, I call your mom. She says you're not there and I should take care,' Hate It Here, from Sky Blue Sky.
'Spiders are singing in the salty breeze, spiders are filling out tax returns. Spinning out webs of deductions and melodies, on a private beach in Michigan,' Spiders (Kidsmoke), from A Ghost Is Born.
