In the busy last few weeks, it's been difficult to find the time to blog. I'm writing a long overdue entry today about some of the recent new music I've been playing.
Bec lent me Amanda Palmer's album Who Killed Amanda Palmer which I really enjoyed, more so than the Dresden Dolls stuff. There's some Ben Folds piano in there too, which is always good. I haven't heard it enough to name individual tracks yet but the first half was impressive, especially Runs in the Family.
Mark just bought the Decemberist's new album The Hazards of Love which is very different from their first album. It's an interesting orchestral 'story' of an album featuring the lead singer of Lavender Diamond and other guest artists. The tracks merge together to form an experimental soundscape.
We also just borrowed Liam Finn's I'll Be Lightning after being impressed with his Led Zeppelin-esque set at Sound Relief. I've seen him play Second Chance twice now and am finding it an addictive little track. Gather to the Chapel is also great.
I've also been playing the Fleet Foxes album today which has some well constructed, beautiful and multilayered songs. Worth seeking out as well.
The new Yeah Yeah Yeahs album is out this week and I have to get myself a copy after seeing the single on Rage. They've reinvented themselves with some eighties rock-driven electronica, like Ladyhawke's effort from last year.
