I remember my mother's sister's husband's brother...

So, the verdict on Sky Blue Sky: fucking amazing. I've only heard it once though so of course I can't give you a decisive overview of all the tracks, but I can point out a couple of major highlights. The first track Either Way gets things off to a smooth start. At first I thought Jeff Tweedy's description of 'an album you can listen to all the way through' meant all the tracks might be like Company in My Back although of course this isn't true. I wouldn't mind too much if it was though because that's one of my favourite songs from A Ghost is Born.

Some of the songs start off like that, then kick up onto a different plane with the addition of piano and guitar. I love You Are My Face which I'm pretty sure they played at the Palais. Walken I already knew was a highlight, as is Hate It Here (almost two songs for the price of one, the second being better though) and Shake It Off. What Light and On and On and On I already knew but still find excellent listening. Impossible Germany seems to be a fans' favourite already from what I've read on the net and it is a pretty cool little number as well.

There's no flat patches really. I'm sure over the next week, as I become more familiar (and probably obsessive) over the album I'll have more to say and will find much more to like. So far though, so bloody good. There was a review in The Age yesterday which you can check out here if you're keen. Of course I bought the version with the bonus DVD but haven't had a chance to watch it yet. Probably tomorrow night.
