As promised, here are the last of my favourite 'track ones' from my CD collection. I know there are two Wilco songs here but that's allowed. Why not? It's my list. I do agree with Bec that Big Exit is also a great 'track one'.
6. E-Pro, Beck (from Guero)
I remember seeing the video clip for this on Rage and being quite impressed. I went out and bought the album later in the week, in fact.
7. I Am Trying to Break Your Heart, Wilco (from Yankee Hotel Foxtrot)
Starts off slowly with all the pieces of distortiony guitar, bits of vocal and keyboard and everything else building until it all comes together for the final verse.
8. Laura, Scissor Sisters (from Scissor Sisters)
A song with great rhythm and lyrics. When I saw them live earlier this year they dedicated this song to Laura Bush.
9. Tales of Endurance Parts 4, 5 and 6, Supergrass (from Road to Rouen)
Another song that just builds from a great guitar intro into the main part of the song, which then changes completely into a rocking sort of chant.
10. No Aphrodisiac, The Whitlams (from Eternal Nightcap)
Such a great song to start off a great album. A worthy winner of the 1997 Triple J Hottest 100 as well.
