Here's a random list of stuff in my iTunes library. It's stuff I started to like back in 1999, when I first moved across the radio dial to Triple J and it's still hanging around in my library and receiving the occasional play.
78 Saab, Karma Package Deal and Sunshine
Technically these songs were probably released in 2000 but I'm fairly certain Sunshine at least was on my last 1999 tape, back when I used to make one tape a month. A couple of great tracks from Picture A Hum, Can't Hear A Sound that still affect me every time.
Built to Spill, Centre of the Universe
One of the best singalong songs of this year, especially the line 'I don't like this air, but that doesn't mean I'll stop breathing it'. I bought the album the following year, predominantly because of this song. One of the songs I taped while awaiting Army by Ben Folds Five.
Muttonbirds, Pulled Along By Love
I bought the album Rain, Steam and Speed for this song too which was not a brilliant move, as it's not that good. But this song is still awesome. It sounds kind of like U2 which is who I thought it was the first time I taped it. I actually taped it on the strength of the song's opening, having not heard it before, after taping something else.
Alex Lloyd, Something Special
This song reminds me of a day back in year 12 where I ended up going to school, finding all my teachers (all two of the ones I had on Friday) were absent and being able to go home before recess. It was a warmish summery day in term three when winter school uniform was too hot, and I went home and changed into a t-shirt and skirt. This was also the day I lodged my VTAC preferences.
