A Review of a Gig I Didn't Attend

Here's a postmodern concept for you! This is all word of mouth, since I didn't actually get to see the gig. I just heard about it second hand from Mark after I made him promise to remember as much of the set list as he could, so there are a few things I can say about the Shins and their performance at the Metro the other night. Apparently it was a good set and the support act wasn't bad either. The set list contained a good mixture of songs from all three of their albums. They managed to get in A Comet Appears, Turn On Me and as would be expected, opened with Sleeping Lessons. They did not, however, play the excellent songs Sealegs and Red Rabbits which I would have found disappointing had I decided to go. Perhaps there were issues with live performance of the percussion elements of the former song, or difficulty with translating cat piano to the stage? Or maybe both songs made it in the following night. Either way, kind of glad I didn't pay $60 for a show without my favourite song from Wincing the Night Away.

They did play Turn A Square, followed up by New Slang and Phantom Limb which would have been a great sequence of songs to see. Plus there was apparently one other song before that I now don't recall... Mark can leave a comment if he can be bothered and remind me. Do employees of the month have time for such luxuries at work ;) ? Sorry, I'll stop giving him shit on my blog now.

In related news, I can't wait to see Gotye this weekend. It should be awesome. Plus in October there's a performance by Sigur Ros at the Arts Festival, alongside a dance performance. I haven't been able to see Sigur Ros live yet so I'm really excited about this, even though they won't be playing too much from their albums since the music was composed specifically for this purpose.
