Top Five Gigs of 2008

1. Wilco, the Palace, April
A show where the set list was dictated by fans, where we got to stand up the front and sing along to Passenger Side, Casino Queen, You Are My Face and everything else good. A satisfyingly long show with great performances by all band members and one of the best gigs of all time.

2. Crowded House, the Forum, December
An almost three hour set from one of the world's best bands. Neil Finn isn't capable of a bad gig. There was new material plus old favorites, audience participation and endless energy.

3. Sufjan Stevens, the Forum, January
A gig where the quiet, reverent audience enjoyed the inspiring and unique sounds of Sufjan and his mini orchestra. I'm hoping for a follow up album soon. Which US state will be featured this time?

4. Kings of Leon, Festival Hall, January
Despite the horrible venue, it was a great chance to see this band before everyone else jumped on the band wagon and they had to play at Rod Laver Arena. An enjoyable set- loud and lively.

5. Patti Smith, Hamer Hall, October
A brilliant show from a must-see performer. I wanted to be able to say I'd seen her once during my lifetime so it was great to see this show- I loved the cover of Within You, Without You and seeing the passion in her performance.
