The Port Boys Drive Toranas
My sister bought the new Greg Champion CD last week which inspired me to write a little about him. I quite like some of his older songs but the new CD is a lot more relevant to the current AFL climate. There are some very funny tracks- the one about Carlton's wooden spoon collection is especially entertaining, as is the one about the Melbourne-supporting stock brokers. I also like the song called The Power and the Crow which is based on an Irish Rovers song The Orange and the Green. (I used to listen to it when I was very little- also their song Unicorn). Greg is restricted to recording only the songs he can get the copyright for, which is a little disappointing as there are some other great tracks he does on the Coodabeens radio show. Mostly about Melbourne and their supporters going to the snow in their Range Rovers, but still entertaining.
