Counting Down to 2008

On the same theme as my last post, I have also composed a list of my top 50 songs of 2007 (I actually have a top 54 so I could make three whole compilation CDs, but never mind that). The next series of posts will alternate between commenting upon the album and song lists.

Top 50 of 2007

50. Ruby, The Kaiser Chiefs

Would be higher up the list if it hadn't been so overplayed! I do still like this song, but having heard it about ten million times has lessened my appreciation for it. From Yours Truly Angry Mob.

49. She Dreams All Different Colours, My Friend the Chocolate Cake
A typical MFTCC mish mash of strings and rock and David Bridie, one of the highlights of the Home Improvements album.

48. Cool Bit of Something, The Commas
One of the memorable songs from their performance in June this year, plus one of the stand-outs on their self titled debut album.

47. Dejalo, Rilo Kiley
Addictive track from Under the Blacklight with hidden depths.

46. Get Around To It, Tracey Thorn
Overplaying spoils this song. It's a good one, but also a tad repetitive.

45. Home Improvements, My Friend the Chocolate Cake
Great opening track from the album of the same title.

44. Fed and Watered, Josh Pyke
A track I really liked on first listen from the album Memories and Dust but again has been slightly spoiled by too much radio play.

43. Hold Music, Architecture in Helsinki
A stand out track from Places Like This and also one of the singles.

42. People Are Like Suns, Crowded House
A great song from their new album Time On Earth which I only appreciated properly after hearing it performed live recently.

41. Mama, Kate Miller-Heidke
The best tracks on this album are the ones where she reverts to her old operatic twist on pop. The performance of Psycho Killer on Spicks and Specks is a case in point, but it's sadly not on the album.
