Over the next month and a bit, in the lead up to 2008, I will list my top ten albums of 2007. I have also worked out the top 50 songs, which will be commented upon separately. Today's entry kicks off the list with numbers 10 and 9 respectively.
10. Drop It In Their Laps, The Cops
It's too bad that Call Me Anytime is ineligible for the top songs list, as it was released last year, although there are plenty of other great tracks on this album too. An album that improves upon each listen. There are lots of nods to the eighties, right from the opening track Out of the Fridge/Into the Fire which kicks off like a Prince song. There's also the excellent and highly addictive single The Message and the hilarious Hot Weapon.
9. Tracey Thorn, Out of the Woods
An album that was instantly likable from the first playing it received. Reminiscent of the best of Everything But the Girl in songs like Get Around To It and Grand Canyon, but far more listener-friendly with shorter, tighter tracks. Other highlights include the single It's All True, Easy and Raise the Roof. Also has moments where the great instrumentation overrides the electronic aspect of the music such as By Piccadilly Circus I Sat Down and Wept and Here It Comes Again.
